I have personally discovered the physical and mental benefits of Bioginnastica along a journey that has taken me from extreme fitness through mental struggles, severe chronic health issues and back to both physical, mental and even spiritual health. Please click below for a more in depth description of my journey and my own experience with Bioginnastica.
Bioginnastica is an Italian methodology for working with the human body. It has been used successfully for over 25 years to address problems like stress, headaches, insomnia, back pain, tense muscles and painful joints.
The instructor is called an Operator - guide. And the client is a student.
The body and mind are re-educated, letting go of old ineffective patterns of behaviour and reconnecting with themselves.
Bioginnastica classes use foam balls especially developed in Germany. As the body presses on them, they have a gentle springing effect, triggering micro-circulation of blood. Thanks to the body's fascial network, sensations and relaxation is transferred throughout the body. Breathing excercises, music, aromatherapy, and self-massage are used alongside the foam balls.
Exercises using the foam balls are done slowly and smoothly, lengthening muscles, lubricating tissues, and increasing the amplitude of available movement.
The balls exert a springing effect on the myofascia, alternating compression with tissue release.
As a result, changes in fascial structure occur due to the thixotropic effect and release.
Combining these exercises with breathing techniques, soothing music and the right aromatherapy relieves physical symptoms in the bone/muscular system of the body as well as psycho-emotional tensions.
The main differences between the Bioginnastica® technique and Myo-Fascial Release (MFR) or other fascia-oriented methods is the focus on soft, long-lasting impact, no pain, the principle of small movements, and conscious breathing. Protocols used in private sessions are based on postural analysis of the student.
At the heart of Bioginnastica lies the concept of “Listening to the Body” - the conscious perception of sensations, emotions and thoughts during exercise.
The goal of the methodology is to bring a person into a state of Postural and Energy Balance.
An important feature of Bioginnastica is its impact on the physical and psycho-emotional sphere of a person.
The body and mind are re-educated, letting go of old ineffective patterns of behavior, gaining the freedom to be themselves.

N.K. has severe but unavoidable stress in her life currently. Her stress was made worse by concern about a surgery she had to schedule to address an extremely painful knee joint.
Over the initial 5 sessions, I focussed the sessions on systematically relaxing her body, starting from the legs and hips, then progressing over the lower back to the diaphragm, shoulders, neck and head.
N.K. reported almost immediate stress relief, which manifested itself in her having more fun in day-to-day activities, a significantly less tense body, and better sleep. And, after the fifth session, she had almost forgotten about the pain in her knee, making her question the need for surgery (although she will get. a medical opinion before making that decision).
After having the first 5 sessions on site, we are continuing our sessions online.
A.L. is a successful business man. The stress of the job has lead A. to have trouble sleeping. Long days at the computer have translated into tension in the back and shoulders, and a very shallow breathing pattern.
Our sessions concentrate on back, neck, shoulders, and diaphragm, with special focus on breathing with each movement.

A.L. says that he feels how each exercise during the class increases the blood circulating in each area of focus - left or right shoulder, back, hip, neck, etc. After each session, he notes how he breathes more freely, feeling how air fills his chest, diaphragm, and belly with each breath. And, nights are calmer, with less thoughts racing through his head, resulting in a better sleep and less snoring (according to his wife!).
A.L. continues with in person sessions.

After analysing and documenting her posture, we worked through a protocol that focusses on aligning the spine while gently relaxing the core muscles.
M. found the sessions enjoyable and relaxing - perfect to relieve the tension in her muscles. The focus on realigning her spine to improve her posture showed gradual results but where clearly visible after even the first session.
